no display

    On the advice of a friend I downloaded the new tweakable omega video drivers but instead of uninstalling nvidia driver he removed at add remove programs... on reboot display vanishes behind black wall after windows xp logo is featured but before log on screen. I was able to log on by typing password and hear the computer logging on but still no display need help getting back from black. Safe mode brought dreaded bsod, last known config etc no help. Can I use xp disk recovery option and delete the nvidia directory to fix...

    AMD Athlon XP 2600 CPU
    512 mhz ddr
    PNY 128 fx5200 agp
