No Entry Symbol Replaces Pictures

I am certain that this question has been posted previously but I can't find it, so apologies.

I am using IE11 under Win7 and commonly I get no entry symbol (a small black circle with bottom left to top right line through it.) where an image or picture should be. It does not disappear if I clear the cache (delete everything through internet options) nor if I close and reopen the tab. It's very annoying.

Please can anyone tell me why this occur and how to put this right ?

Have you double-checked that the settings in Internet Options > Advanced > Multimedia > that the box 'show pictures' is checked, then clicked on 'apply' and 'ok' all the way out?

If that didn't work have you tried resetting Internet Options > 'security' to reset to default level, 'apply' and 'ok' all the way out?

Have you also checked whether any add ons are enabled that might be causing it?

 

No I hadn't checked, but I have now; I don't change these settings

Add-ons can cause this ? How would I check if an add-on would cause this ? Anyway, I don't muck about with add-ons.

I don't know much about what you're talking about, I'm afraid, so I leave them alone. Sorry. I can't even check if it's still happening as I don't remember, but there's sure to a next time ...I seem to remember years back there was a similar situation only the picture was replaced by a different larger symbol in colour.

It may also be other software you may have that deals with Ads (such as adblock software) or Javascript (eg something like NoScript).
