I ran fdisk on a system with win95 and tried to load win98,(i also formatted). At the end of the process, i got the "no fixed disk" error. It shows up if I try to fdisk again. The hhd is there, but isn't detected. C: is actually my cdrom. HEELLLPPPP!

Not sure where in the process of installing 98 you're getting this error...

    Try this procedure:
Make sure your BIOS boot-order is set to boot from floppy drive 1st.
Boot from your Win98 boot floppy, choose the option to boot with CD-ROM support.
Run fdisk, say yes to Large Disk Support.
Verify you have a primary DOS partition which is active, if you don't, create one and/or make it active.
Format the partition (format c: /s).
With your 98 CD in the drive, run setup, note the results of Scandisk and (attempt to) install 98.

If you've already gone thru this same procedure then...

If this procedure doesn't work, exactly where does it fail?

Just saw this in the MSKB:

Could be one of those hardware issues...
