I have a joystick that the connector is a plug which I used to plug into the sound card on my old mb. My new mb has only usb ports and no game port. Is there some kind of adapter I can buy aside from buying a new joystick with a usb connector or is it now obsolete?

Does your new mb have on board sound?

If it does, then it should have a game port connection on the mb for a joystick/midi. The connection requires you to connect an adapter which goes from the mb to the back of the case in one of the pci openings.
Check your mb manual, on the drawing showing all of the jumpers and connection, it should have it listed.

Had this problem with Abit NF 7S board . You have a couple options . You could install a sound card with gameport .Soundblaster Live for 30 bucks or so , or Radio Shack sells an adaptor for USB to gameport. Haven't tried it , so don't know how it works.
