No IEin 32 bit.32 bit windows in 64 bit windows 7

My grandson was dicking around on my PC. I now have NO IE 8 in 32 bit. I tried to enable it through Control panel but to no avail. I don't even have a 32 bit shotcut or .exe for IE 8 32 bit. I know Win 7 comes with it installed and you can't remove it,but whats up with this?:cry

 

Try restoring to an earlier date when IE was good.

Hello, if iain.t's method does not work, try this.

Click the Start button, click Control Panel, click Programs, and then click "Turn Windows features on or off". Turn off Internet Explorer 8, let the computer restart and then turn Internet Explorer back on again and let the computer restart.

Did that to NO avail! I have 64 bit IE 8 but No 32 bit IE8

 

When you go to My Computer, do you see:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

I have checked and it is NOT there.

 

Other than reinstalling Windows, the only other possible method is listed here under Method 2. You might want to install another browser like Firefox or Opera before you think about reinstalling Windows.

I don't have iexplore.exe but I DO have just iexplore. Click on it and nothing happens.

 

It that in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\ path? You probably have extensions turned off. You can turn them on by doing this.

What happens if you double click that file?

 

I did that and have the .exe extensiion,double click on it and nothing happens

 

Have you used the system file checker?

Did that but it did not find anything

 

Okay, try this. After the computer reboots, try double clicking iexplore.exe in C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\ .

Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

Type this:

netsh winsock reset

Enter
Reboot

Edit: Note: Before you do this create a restore point.

Okay, one last try and then I am out of ideas other than to install Firefox or Opera.

At this link Repair IE8 There is a reg file to download for IE832bit for Windows 64 bit called ie8-rereg.32on64.zip. Download it to your desktop and extract the file. Right click ie8-rereg.32on64.cmd and "run as administrator".

As the note says:
This script cannot fix all problems ;-)

 

I ran it as administrator ,it says error:access denied

No problem, glad to help. Just wondered how you got around the access denied problem as other people have reported this.

 

I used the wrong reg file. First I used the 32bit on a 32 bit system(duh) Then I used the right one,th 32 bit on the 64 bit system and it worked. Again....................THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
