I am trying to get my daughters computer running. She said her video card blew up. It was clear something happened to it. The fan was completely gone. So I found the exact same video card and installed it. But when I turned it on it said the same thing it said before, no input. It has a brand new monitor and cord so I know that's not it. This computer was built, so I don't know much about it. On the front of the tower it says HP dvd 1260 Lite Cooler Master. The video card is a Geforce 8500 GT Vga Dvi. It runs Windows XP. When I turn it on it chatters like it wants to start. Any ideas?

Could you describe in more detail what happens when you press the power button please?:) Do the fans keep spinning after you've turned it on,do the lights stay on? By chatter do you mean the hard drive makes all the same noises like its loading windows 'watch the hard drive light' or does it stop after a few seconds.

First thing to try anyway is a cmos reset, disconnect from the mains, find a small coin shaped battery on the motherboard and remove, leave it out for 20 seconds then replace.

Reconnect the electricity and try to power up.

If this doesn't work you need to start at the beginning, disconnect everything, hard drive, cdrom, all add in cards apart from the video card, use one stick of memory in slot 0.

Try to power up if this doesn't work reset the cmos again as previously described and try to power up,swap to another stick of ram, reset cmos then try to power up.

Post if your stuck or there's something you don't undertsand.

    Hi Linda,

Just a thought: No Input is a common Monitor error message. I have had several calls with similar symptoms as yours. Does your machine have another video connector on the back? If it does try moving the monitor to the other plug. Maybe?

    Good Luck, Jim
