Somehow caught "Antispyware soft". Went through all the usual READ ME FIRST steps to no avail. Used other recommended steps and still couldn't get rid of it. Continued searching the net and read best solution was system restore. Did that and malware finally gone, but no internet! I've rebooted my pc, rebooted my modem and nothing. Any ideas guys 'n' gals would be much appreciated!!!!

A little more information please, such as Windows edition, type of Internet connection (Cable, DSL, etc), what type of connection (Ethernet, USB, external Ethernet port)

    Thanks!

    Yes to zdawg.

Loss of internet connectivity isn't uncommon following malware removal steps, and there is a good chance it is not gone, unless you restored to factory condiditon.

But DETAILS are essential to receiving good help. Provide all you can. :wave

You need to start a thread in the malware section, which you have not done.
It isn't enough to go through the steps. You have to post logs.

Here hopefully is some more information to help you help me :)

Using RCA modem via Road Runner (Time Warner). Standard cable connection for RR cable modems to motherboard, not separate Ethernet card. Attaching HJT log as well.

Any further information needed please let me know. All files are in place. Nothing missing or not working. The internet just seems unable to locate the Ethernet port. Also the modem is not listed in the device manager.

Have you gone through the malware removal steps and started a thread there?

System restore doesn't necessarily cure a malware problem.

But, that said, open a command prompt and type
    ping www.yahoo.com

    Results of that?

    In the command prompt type
    IPconfig /all

    What does that show? :wave:wave

Thanks Plodr for all the info. As stated in the first post, the first thing I did was go step by step through the READ ME, RUN ME FIRST GUIDE. It was the first time the guide help get rid of the malware. It was after going through these steps more than once (in safe and normal start up modes) that I continued to search for more information. That search lead to repeated postings stating the next best step would be system restore. Did it, worked, but no internet as a result.

And did you try the ping?

Did you look at ipconfig /all?

Just because you ran through the steps and just because you did a restore, doesn't mean your system is clean.

There is plenty of help and helpers available here, but you should respond to the ideas presented to you. :wave:wave:wave

Tried them earlier today. Haven't been home to try, so please beleive I appreciate everyone's responses!

Ping www.yahoo.com had no visible results.

ipconfig /all opened the command window for a nano-second. Certainly not long enough to view any results.

Going to go through the READ ME RUN ME steps again and will post the results in the malware section

    Okay, and just to clarify;

For both the "ping" test and the "ipconfig /all" test, you need to first open a command prompt.

Go to start, find "command prompt", click on it, and THEN type in the respective commands.

This will tell us if your computer is seeing the internet, and if then your computer is configured to connect to the internet.

But, please complete the malware removal steps first. Then start a thread and post your logs. It really doesn't pay to try to solve this problem until you are declared malware free. Because if it is malware produced, the advice you get here will be useless.

And, bye the way, going through that procedure will be quite a learning experience in itself! :wave:wave:wave

brandypeppy you sure hate yahoo, anyways...
    did you install the drivers?
cause if you were connecting to a wireless connection you might want to install the drivers.
