My aunt did the free Windows 10 update from Windows 7. After the update she had no internet connection so she decided to roll back to Windows 7. After the roll back, she still has no connection. Her connection icon says "unidentified network" and will not connect to the internet. It is plugged directly into the modem. I went online and found instructions to type in ipconfig into the command prompt and the message "media disconnected" comes up. I did the reset commands like it said but that didn't work. I disabled and enabled the the lan and that didn't help.

There was no problem before she did the update. I don't understand why it doesn't work after going back to 7. Does anyone have any idea how to fix it?

Try this Paula - open Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings. Right click Local Area Connection and see if you get the option to enable it.

You will probably need to go to the manufacturer's site and find the drivers for onboard ethernet and wifi, if that is also being used.
Unfortunately Windows 10 updates drivers too. They don't always install the correct driver which causes problems.
The rollback is supposed to work smoothly but that doesn't always happen either. My guess is that Win 7 returned, the wrong incorrect Win 10 driver was not removed.

I had this happen on a Windows 10 upgrade and downgrade too. In this case what it was caused by IOBit Malware fighter displaying a quick pop-up during upgrade/downgraded that asked whether a change to start-up item was to be enabled or disabled. This was a very quick pop-up and hidden by the upgrade process.

It is possible that other anti-virus or anti-malware software interferes with the upgrade and you need to watch for these messages or turn-off this software just for the purposes of the upgrade.

Make a backup of the pre-upgrade system before attempting the upgrade.

Once upgraded, I found that the Start menu didn't work but that's another story also caused by interference by installed software, in this case a Start menu replacement. See my responses in another thread if this happens.

It was just the driver. I ended up bringing her computer to my house and it got right online while still on 7 so I updated to 10 again but I had downloaded a Win 10 driver for her lan card and installed it after the update and it worked fine. Thank you for all the replies. :)
