No Internet Audio

After removing Malware with the help of this site (http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=1631563#post1631563), an unexpected side effect was that my internet audio is no longer working. For clarification, the audio does work when Windows is starting and in applications like Windows Media Player and Itunes. Youtube audio, on the other hand, does not work. I am currently running a Windows 7 64 bit PC. I have tried reinstalling Java and Adobe Flash Player to fix the problem to no avail. Lastly I have also tried to look for software problems in the registry with the sfc /scannow trick from cmd- no violations were found. Thanks for your help.

 

If you go to youtube, or what ever, click on your audio system tray icon, then click mixer. From here, do you have anything muted? I'm posting an example pic. If it is muted, just click it to unmute.

 

Nothing is muted. The problem lies specifically with internet audio, all the sounds on windows (itunes, etc) seem to work.

 

I assume you tried a different browser also?

 

Yes I also tried IE, no luck.

 

Just out of curiosity, have ye tried creating a new user, and use that account to play youtube audio?

 

I wasn't even logged into youtube when I tried to play the audio. Do you think its worth making a profile for it? Additionally the problem isn't just with youtube, but internet videos (and thus audio) in general regardless of the site.

Another strange fact is that usually when I turn the sound up or down on my pc I see some sort of audio bar moving up or down, however I don't see that bar when I do it now.

 

I'm just using youtube as an example. Though, it wouldn't hurt. This way you can rule out your account having the issue.

Malware sometime changes the permissions in the registry. Go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32

Right click and select permissions. There should be no deny box checked for any user. Is there?

Could the on-screen volume not showing be related to Dell's Quickset program? Is that still running on your system? Under Processes in Task Manager? (You may have to show tasks for all users) Or just start in from all programs > Dell>

 

I might be hesitant to do that since it is changing a lot of registry items. People have reported success with it though. You have to reboot after FixNoFlashSound.reg I am just not sure if it will work for 64bit. Maybe somebody here has some thoughts on that.

 

I actually couldn't find Dell Quick Set, it doesn't appear to be in the All programs group either...

 

I doubt it is related to your internet sound problem so you may want to concentrate on that for now.

Try here c:\program files\dell\quickset\quickset.exe and see if you can start the executable.
