    Hey gang,

I can't get my windows 7 labtop to connect to the internet. (desktop works fine, my xp labtop works fine).

I went through this post and tried some of the responses but it did not fix my problem. http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=232758

It get's signal in both wireless and wired but it acts the same like the cited post.

I'm not too tech savy as far as networking goes, so there's probably somethings that will go way over my head.

Any help is much appreciacted. :)

I would suggest looking at the hosts file in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and also make sure the browser isn't set to use a proxy.

That thread you linked to was pretty involved, I'm hoping that you have a simpler network.

It sounds like another DNS issue, did you try any of the diagnostics?

Start > Run > type cmd (press ok)
in the command box that appears:

type in ipconfig /all (press enter). Copy and paste that here if you can, otherwise I'm looking for the IP, subnet mask, gateway and DNS server of the one connection that has it filled in.

back at the prompt, try a few pings
(press enter after each line and report back if the 4 packets responded or not)
    ping 127.0.0.0
    ping 4.2.2.2
    ping google.com
