No internet, onboard NIC seemingly undetected

    Hi all.

I have a very odd problem. I'm unable to get on the Internet or even connect to my router anymore on my desktop computer. I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R mobo with an onboard Realtek NIC. I've tried so many things to fix it... I've contacted my ISP to see if there was something up with the Internet in my area, rebooted my computer/modem/router, tried to do a System Restore (which wouldn't work until I went to Safe Mode), and I've tried to install new drivers for my NIC, all to no avail.

    A few more details:
    I'm on Windows XP Professional.

IPCONFIG doesn't show anything except for the line "Windows IP Configuration".

Device Manager shows nothing for Networking. It goes straight from "Monitors" to "Ports (COM & LPT)".

Going to Add/Remove Programs and clicking "Change" on "REALTEK GbE & FE Ethernet PCI-E NIC Driver" returns an error for "Setup.exe". The appname & modname for the crash is _is88.exe.

Pinging 127.0.0.1 seems to work with 0% loss.

Have you tried getting into the BIOS at boot up and checking status of onboard Realtek?
    If disabled; re-enable and reboot.
If enabled; disable, reboot, re-enable and reboot again.

    Yes, I have.

At my BIOS, I go to "Integrated Peripherals". "Onboard H/W Lan" is enabled. "SMART LAN" has no value set, I press enter on it and it says "Virtual Cable Test", but I can't do anything when I go there. "Onboard LAN Boot ROM" is set to disabled, but I've tried enabling it, saving, and restarting the PC and there has been no difference.

I've also tried new ethernet cords to see if that changed anything, but that made no difference.

BTW, I haven't tried clearing my CMOS yet, but I'm contemplating it.

Well, clearing CMOS might clear out a fault.
Have you checked Gigabyte's support site for any issues with your board?
May have a fault in the LAN hardware itself.
You might want to repost this in Hardware to get some more exposure with people familiar with this board, as I've never used a Gigagyte.

I have, and unfortunately there isn't anything regarding my issue at their support site.

I'll be reposting this in hardware, thanks.
