Hi there, ive just purchased a faulty Toshiba Equium a100, had no power and no keyboard, got home and checked it on ext monitor, no joy. I put it down to the function key so bought a keyboard, still no joy. Also it turns off after about a minute. Can anyone give me a a rundown on what to check before i declare it a faulty motherboard.
    Thanks in advance,
    Damian!!!

When trying to use the external are you are pressing Fn + F5 to activate the external(F5 is just a guess there should be a crude picture of a monitor on the appropriate key somewhere)?

Do you still have video on your laptop or is it black? A lot of times it is just a setting in the graphics card control panel.

Yes tried toggling which brings me on to another question, should the caps lock light be able to come on, wondering if i was sold a dud keyboard and wont allow me to toggle.

This indicates either a heat or a power supply problem. You should fix that before you worry about the display and the keyboard.
