    Hi
I hope someone can help me.
They just wiped and reformatted my computer at work and now my mic does not even show up. I have tried everything and all the settings are grayed out.
Is there some way I can get this dang thing working again?
    Thanks

Oh gosh I was so anxious for help I forgot to tell the details.. LOL :D Thanks for the reminder.
It is a headset without any mute switch or on off switch. I am running WIN XP Pro. Intel Pentium 4CPU 3.20 GHz, 1024 MB RAM.

The sound says it is HDAUDIO. I think they must have swapped something when they reformatted. I know they switched MOBO's on me to try and find the problem.

    This is from System INformation:
Name Microsoft UAA Function Driver for High Definition Audio - CMedia 9880
    PNP Device ID HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_434D&DEV_4980&SUBSYS_813D1043&REV_0900\4&3AB10393&0&0001

I wish I knew what else to look for.. is this enough?
I have never had this problem before. Is there a setting in BIOS that needs to allow the mic to be seen?
    Thanks

open control panel goto the sounds and audio devices icon and open it there should be able to configure the head set from there also open volume control in the task bar
click options > Properties > Adjust volume for recording then click ok you make sure the mic box is checked

That does not work. There is no option to open the microphone. It is grayed out.
I wonder if its possible to have a sound card that is not fully installed?
When I go to speech in control panel.. and try and configure mic it says no audio input devices currently installed on my computer.
Under master volume... properties... the only thing NOT grayed out is the playback.

Ok thanks now i have a mic showing up but the volume is way too low. I would have to practically swallow the mic to get it loud enough LOL. Any ideas how to increase that.. since the sliders are all the way up to the top.

I have tried every trick I know to get my mic volume high enough for skype and yahoo to detect it but it still is so low that nobody can hear me. I know i am connected since I can tap the mic and people hear THAT. Is there a trick that I don't know?
    thanks:cry

I do not have that option. The only "other controls" is 1 monitoring and I have tried checking and unchecking it. There appears no difference. I have noiticed that I have a C-media 3D audio configuration panel. I show the mic in the right port.
I wonder since I dont have a mic boost if there is still something that is not installed correctly.
