No Mixer device

Hello All,
I recently had to reinstall Xp on my gateway desktop and for some reason I have no sound out to my speakers. I have the intel proset II.
I checked the Bios and sound is on, I checked my auido drivers and they show no problems
I downloaded the AC 97 audio driver and tried to install it but I got
"no mixer device found, downd is useless"

Having the same problem here.:eek (didnt want to repost same question) Its on an old pc I built that my wife uses. Running Windows XP Professional. When I start it up or reboot I have sound but after about 5 min it quits working. When I click on the speaker on the task bar it says "There are no active mixer devices available. " When I look in device manager it shows no mixer/sound device but if I reboot its there again. Ive tried reloading the drivers and problem continues. The basic windows sounds are still there.

I don't think that the problems are the same at all.

Climbsurf has (lack of) driver problems, which is normal after reinstalling Windows.

Go to

and download everest.

Post the report file.

Please post some details of you Gateway so that we can finds the right drivers. Before the audio drivers are installed you often have to install drivers for other motherboard chips so anything you can tell us about the motherboard / audio card is useful. You may also find that you have other drivers missing, for instance the modem, which may also be your sound device.



Ripcord I think you most likely have a hardware problem so start your own thread there.
