I have tried several other post but they dont seem to work. I have PIV, 512 ram, 200GB HDD running windows media. I have just reinstalled the OS and a month later I have the same problem.

    Problem -
When I start the computer i get the message "No page file, or the Paging File Is Too Small". or sometimes this message does not apear and it leaves me with the blue windows screen and it will not progress. after pressing CtRL/ALT/Delete it gives me the desk top but the pagefile is still 0Kb.

Please give me some help as this does not want to go away.

    Welcome To Major Geeks :major

    To adjust the page file

    Control Panel - System - Advanced -
    Performance - Settings - Advanced -
Virtual Memory - Change - System Managed Size - Set
    Ok

You can adjust it to whatever suits you.
Generally the less Ram you have, the larger your virtual memory should be.

    good Luck

Welcome to Major Geeks, too. :major

To check out my $0.02 on swapfile sizing.
    Go to http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=114498.

A suggestion, as per that thread, download and install SIW (System Information for Windows), to arrive at the optimum size for any PC, no matter how much RAM you have.

It could /will save, you wasting hard drive space, and give you a warm fuzzy feeling that you have put another olde MS recommendation to rest.

I realise that hard drive space is not as critical as it used to be with today's huge capacity hard drives, but I like to control all aspects of my PC's operation.
    That's just me. :D

Thanks so far for your replies but I have done all the above but when I go to the page file, it has only allocated 0Kb, no matter what I put into page file or if I leave windows to controll it.

I suspect a currupt file somewhere?

Maybe rename pagefile.sys in your C:\ (root drive) to pagefile.xxx (don't just delete it), and try the earlier instructions again.

If it now works, then delete pagefile.xxx .

    Keep us informed. Bazza

I think you have hit on something. I have been trying to locate this file and it is missing. I can find it on my other computers but not on the one causing problems.

Now the question is how do I create this file?

Go to shanemail's reply (#2) in this thread.
This should help you establish a pagefile.sys file on your PC in C:\.
If it doesn't, come back to us.

Just out of curiousity, did you do a full search for a pagefile.sys file?, or just look in c:\ ? I gather you did a full search, and did not find one at all? Is that right? Bazza

PS: A workaround might be to copy the pagefile.sys from another PC and paste it into c:\. But all care and no responsibilty for this workaround. (Take all the usual precautions). :cry confused

It would be much better and much safer to use shanemail's way.:D

Thanks, but yes I have tried this.

All I have found on the system is pagefileconfig.vbs. I tried repairing windows, chkdsk /r and everything else in this thread.

In regards to copying the file across. I did try that yesterday, but it would not allow it. tried copy, but it would not let me past, drag and drop and it also would not allow me to open in note pad.

I am currently getting all important files off and will reformat. I think I have a corrupt program causing this.

Sorry, buddy, but I'm fresh out of ideas.:cry confused

Anyone else, please step in. :D Bazza

PS: One last idea, rather than cut and paste, did you try copying a pagefile.sys file to a USB memory stick and then copy from USB to C:\? Baz

I tried copying into a flash drive first then a folder on the computer.

    reinstalling windows should be enough
although you mentioned that you have already tried this.
I can only assume that either some other software you installed
    is removing the page file (or malware is doing it);
or you or someone else using the computer is doing it by accident.

Reformatting is a bit of a pain, but at least you will be able to keep track
of what you instal and adjust afterwards.
Great for cleaning out the system (computer enema :D )

    good luck :wave

Don't copy it into a "Folder".
It goes into C:\ (the root drive), no-where else will work. :) Bazza

    I was meant to say
I tried copying it into a folder on the computer that is working OK, but it did not let me. Then I tried copying it direct to the flash drive, that also did not let me.

Don't worry, reformat worked. This is a computer for recording audio and new years eve we had a power failure while recording. that also could have been the problem.

Glad to hear that you are back in operation.:)
Sorry that reformatting was your solution.:cry

Maybe a UPS would be a good investment if power failures are frequent.
A UPS is a good idea for all desktops. Bazza
