no password

    i have been given an old acer travelmate 526iTX running windows 2000 pro, trouble is i dont know the password to log on ,does anyone know how to get round this? any suggestions will be welcome, thankyou

    Are you referring to the password to enter Windows or a password in the startup (BIOS) screen?

    If it's the Windows password, download a password removal program such as Dr. Freeware. It should be able to remove the Windows password.

    If it is a password in the BIOS startup, you can try unplugging the PC, removing the main battery then removing the CMOS battery inside the PC for about 30 minutes before reinstalling it. On most older PCs, this will clear the BIOS password.

    thanks for the reply, it is the windows log on password i require but how can a program help when i cant get no further than the log on page?
