no picture for games on lcd tv

I recently got a toshiba 20" lcd tv. when i hook it up with vga cable to my computer everything seems to work fine eg (movies play fine and windows works fine) except for when i try to play games the picture goes blank but i still have sound and i can see the picture on the tv-out (s-video) going to the other tv's in the house. i have an asus k8n mobo with 2 gig ram and gefore fx 5200 video card.

 

i have found that the problem is that the tv only works at refresh rate of 60hz
i have the monitor set to 60hz in display properties. but the only games i can get to work are one that i can change the refresh rate to 60 in the settings.
Is there a way to make the games that don't have an option for refresh rate in the settings to run at 60hz as default?

 

i was able to solve this problem by overriding the refresh rate with dxdiag.
run dxdiag and then click the more help tab then click override. here you can set the refresh rate to whatever you want. hope this helps anyone with the same prolem.
