    Hi, new here:

Question about a new build. I have an issue where no screen shows on my monitor, regardless of what graphics card I use, even with the onboard. Brand new MSI ATX DDR3 2600 LGA 1150 Motherboard H97 GAMING 3 motherboard (Have already replaced it thinking mobo was DOA), brand new intel core i7 4790 LGA 1150, new GTX 760 graphics card, 4 sticks of DDR3 RAM (two corsair, two g.skill), 800w corsair PSU, Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case. Monitor worked previously and still works/powers on no problem, RAM is all fine.

Have tried different PSU, different video inputs, monitor and TV, all sticks of RAM individually in different slots, have reset CMOS with battery (no jumper on board), have breadboarded, all screws in and grounding.

No life at all to monitor. All fans spinning on mobo and lights turning on. Do not have mobo speaker, so no beeps. Now it has started shorting/powering on and off by itself with a 5-10 second cycle. Seems inconsistent, as sometimes it will stay on for some time.

FWIW, this same problem has happened to me with the same tower and hdd, but totally different mobo, processor, and graphics card in the same location I am living now. Was resolved randomly previously be reassembling, but that isn't working now. No dust, have cleaned the case pretty thoroughly. Have consulted all geek friends, independently tested most (not processor, but it is brand spanking new) pieces of hardware, followed online guides, etc. Not sure what to do now. Help!

It sounds to me like you have an exposed/broken wire and it's shorting out/open. Check all cabling for nicks/cuts and "wiggle" them to see if you can get the monitor to respond.

Will do that when I get back home. Is there a "most likely culprit"? PSU is unlikely since I have tried two separate ones. Also worth mentioning that the cabling I am using, while it has given me trouble before, was working with my old build.

It could be PSU to graphics card or some ribbon cable. Since the cabling has given you problems, once identified, you may want to replace it/them.

What do you mean, "all screws in"? That may be your problem - you may be grounding out the motherboard when it should not be.

Understand all cases are designed to support 1000s of different motherboards - boards of different sizes. Consequently, cases typically have more motherboard mounting holes than motherboards have.

If you have inserted a standoff in the case where there is no corresponding motherboard mounting hole, you may be grounding (shorting out) the motherboard.

You MUST ensure you have inserted a standoff in the case ONLY where there is a corresponding motherboard mounting hole.

You might want to take everything out of the case, place the motherboard on a wooden cutting board or plain piece of cardboard, and assemble the computer outside the case.

In the past, all cases came with "system speakers". Then "some" motherboards started coming with integrated system speakers so it seems case makers saw that as a sign to stop putting speakers in all their cases. But not all motherboard makers put them on their boards. Yet the ATX standard still requires they provide connections to support system speakers.

So I recommend you get a System Speaker to connect to your board.

You say you have tried different graphics cards but note that many cards require separate power connections from the PSU. So make sure you have done that.

I also see you are using two different RAM brands and model numbers. Try with just the Corsair, then just the G.Skill.
