No Power to Laptop

I have an HP laptop and the ac adapter had a severed wire, so I attempted to re-splice the wire. This did not go well, as when power was applied some kind of surge blew something and now the laptop will not power up with a newly purchased ac adapter.

I got to the motherboard and tried to determine the damage but there is nothing visibly noticeable, everything appears pristine, I have not used a multimeter or any diagnostic devices to see if maybe a "by-pass" or see if life can be restored.

Since there are no fuses, and do not know if a reset or there is some kind of hardware remedy for this power issue. Does anyone have experience bringing back the dead...?? I hope I do not have to ditch the mb.

 

After the "Blow" did you check if the pin in the laptop socket or hole isnt damaged or broken cause if thats the case you need to get a jack socket or something

It sounds like you had a short circuit in the repaired wire - is that possible (it would have to have connected to the other wire)? If so, then it's possible that you shorted out the battery as well as the adapter (I don't know how the circuitry works in these things, but it seems possible). If that's so, the battery could be wrecked, so maybe you should try another battery - can you borrow one? Or try it with no battery - do laptops work without a battery (I can't see why not)? I've never tried it though (I don't have a laptop).

 

What comes out of your charger is DC current if you crossed the wires during the repair you reversed the polarity and more than likely damaged the circuit within the laptop.
