Hi my mate has a PC that won't power up pressing the on button does nothing no fans running the only thing I can see is the on board LED flickers but not brightly.Three things I think it could be 1/power supply 2/ MB 3/ power switch
the powers supply is a FSP 350w with a 24pin and 4pin power. I have only a 20 pin supply to test it with the power switch seems ok.Do you think I'm on the right track trying to solve the problem

The power Supply would be something to try.

Also try changing RAM configurations. Also try removing all PCI cards from the machine.

Make sure there is nothing improper inserted in any of the USB ports or Card Reader slots.

    When started the problem:

1- When you or your friend opened the CPU to change / install something
2- Suddenly someday it didn't turn on anymore

If you had a power surge and then lost power, the cheapest thing to try first is a new PS> I would install a 500w. If that isn't the problem, then you may have fried the MB.

Do you have a surge protector connected?

    If so, try without it.

I see, that's not really good for CPU.

Well, could be some problems but do the basics first:

    1. Did you unplugged the power cable, turn off the power supply (if it have a button to do it), connect the power cable and turn on the power supply again.

    2. (is better with the step one to dissconnect every cable, keyboard, mouse to the cpu) and reconnect all.

    3. Are you connecting the computer to a extension, did you tried other power entrie to connect it, in the wall, i don't know how to explain it, my english is a bit poor. Like change the place or connect other thing to test there's energy.

    4. In the last chance you might open the CPU, and see what happens if press the power button, and see if the internal cooler moves or anything is recieving energy, is probable the cut off energy caused some damage or cicle energy stills in some device or mainboard.

The best you can do after this all is; Unplug the Power Supply, hard disk, DVD drive, disk 3 1/2 drive (if you have one) and after dissconnect this, connect only the power supply and the hard disk and try to turn on.

If you don't know how to do that, tell me and i will post some images.
