I have a fairly new laptop with win 7
and it was on all night, and this morning I keep getting warnings that my RAM level is low in failure
and a Critical error that my harddrive cannot be found...
and the system has deteeted a problem with one or more installed IDE/SATA hard disks It is recommended you restart the system.

I go to restore the point and I dont have any restore points?
HOw can I restore this back to how it was when i first bought it about 8 months ago?

meanwhile my desktop is black and I keep getting critical warnings,Harddrive is in cluster, personal data is at risk things like that

It sounds like a virus to me. I haven't seen the screens themselves but an awful lot of people are getting warnings about HD failure. Take a look at the screenshots in this post http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-windowsfixdisk if they look familiar then I would do the Read and Run me in the Malware forum and seek help there.

If you really think there is a problem with your HD then we can take a look at that. Or if you really want to do a factory reset then give the Make and Model of your laptop.

yes, those are the similar warnings I am getting
I 'm not good with computers, and I took this laptop to best buy,,where a dude told me it would be $200 and they'd need it for 3 -5 days
I need this computer though for school, only now I cannot access my files on my Desktop on the other account( I am on the infrected computer, using a different account, which doesnt have access to my school files!) I kept putting off making a back up because I thought the restore point feature was automatic)
    My computer specs are:
    windows 7home premium 64-bit
geniune Intel CPU U7300 @ 1.3GHz, 4 GB ram, Mobile Intel 4 series express

I would do a factory restore, but I think I had to buy a windows license or something and type in that code to gain full access and I'm not 100% I know where that card is and I dont want to lose class notes/material.
I've read the sticy in Malware,I think you mean this
READ & RUN ME FIRST Malware Removal Guide (incl. spyware, virus, trojan, hijacker
I'm not sure I can follow all of that, but I'll try or can I someone get my school files off te infected user account, save them to a flashdrive and do a factory restore and find my Windows LIscense?
    Thanks

I really think going to Malware forum is advisable. I'm not familiar with all that that virus does and someone there should be able to help to clean things up without a factory restore. Factory restore deletes all personal files and takes you back to the day you took the laptop out of the box. That is not an option for you, right now, since you have school work to save.

I do know it is hiding your school files. Whether or not unhiding them will work before getting rid of the virus/malware is uncertain. When you are on the new account can you see your old files--or are are they not visible? (Try going to C:\Users\youroldusername\Desktop Can you get to the Desktop folder or do you get an error?)

You realy need to go through the Malware READ and RUN ME as this sound like you are infected with windows security 2011 virus. It's not that hard to remove and should not leave any damage after removal so your files will be safe, the virus throws false hits out and renders the user account useless until it has been removed.

I can't access my files or use the internet on the infected account
If I do the READ AND RUN ME steps from the account I'm on(same computer) will it find the issues and fix them?

It may, or may not. But you need to do the instructions and then post in the malware forum. ;)

As TimW has advised you must try running them, you will only find out if you can or not when you try, has the account you are using now got Admin rights?? if so then that will help alot, if you can not run the scans from that account then I would suggest that you download programs/scanners in safemode with networking then scan in safemode.

I was able to get to the infected account, which has admin rights.....I dont know how to use safemode at all, I can't see my desktop, when I go to the start button and look for my desktop or look for school files on the desktop, I find the folders, but they are empty.

I am slowly going through the malware stick and I dont know most of the things I'm seeing
this is gonna take me forever
Empty ALL Quarantine type folders for antivirus and antispyware applications.
I have no idea how to do that.....

    combofix.exe

    * Important Notes:
o You MUST save & later run this to from directly from your Desktop not from anywhere else (not even from a folder that is on your Desktop). Do not run it yet!!!!!!
o When trying to download, if you receive a message like "ComboFix is currently not available for download until an issue with the program is resolved" then just skip ComboFix for now and tell us later about this problem.

I can't even see my desktop, should I save this to a USB drive?

Skip it for now if you can't download it to your desktop.....or download with another computer and transfer it via cd or thumb drive. Have you, or can you, open task manager and start a new process? Type in explorer and see if you don't get your desktop back.

You need to just do what you can and then start a thread in malware with your logs attached.

In the thread you start in the malware forum, we request these:
    SAS
    MBAM
    RootRepeal --- if it runs.
    ComboFix --- if it runs.
    C:\MGLogs.zip --- from running the C:\MGTools.exe

    LOL
dude, I have no idea what any of the stuff is, I know what the combofix is, well, recognize the name
I went to http://www.is3.com/home.do and they connected to my computer via magic and fixed it with 2 hours...Best Buy said it would take 3 days and cost more than I got charged..Now I get a year of service, if this happens again, and monthly tune ups.(sounds good, but useless) and I spent 2 hours ****ing around while they linked to my computer and fixed it.
Now I get to study my recovered files and take a zoology final tomorrow, AND I MADE A RESTORE POINT
and will keep notes on the HD and the jumpdrive...

Ask them what they found. To let others here know. Safe mode is pressing F8 on boot up.

I'd just like to state that Restore Points don't do anything except revert drivers and other Windows components. They're useless against malware infections.
