For some reason your RPC service isnt starting, youll have to go into administration then services and look for RPC, right click on it and hit start.

Have you disabled anything in MSCONFIG?

RPC is always started. If it isn't, the the machine isn't booting, or is rebooting.

Chances are, you have a third party dependency that can't start.
Third party dependencies aren't viewable via services.msc.

What does the service say in regedit? Usually you will find the dependonservice key says RPCSS ans something else, like lexbce.

Remove the third party dependency and the spooler should work again.

Of course, it also means you ahve to reinstall/upgrade your printer software if you have a Lexmark or Xerox printer.

Attached is what the key looks like by default.

That article fixes a whole slew of things.

Basically, you are manually ripping out your printer and putting it back in.

@Wookie: These things would be easier if MS could write an ACCURATE error message and not a misleading one ;)

I only have an advantage because MS techs call me because they can't decipher it either :eek
