Er, hi, I have a problem. It's with this custom computer I'm building.

I turn it on, and everything seems to work fine, except for the fact that I do not get anything on the monitor. Absolutely nothing - I do not see a darn thing except for the 'Please Check Signal Cable' note. I made sure that everything was plugged in, and that everything was installed correctly.

Is something wrong with my computer? I don't know whether it is the motherboard or the video card.

    System Specs:

    Motherboard: ASUS A8N-SLI
    Video Card: MSI NX6600GT-TD128E
    Memory: KVR400X64C3AK2/1G
Power Supply: The one that came with the XION XON-002 case, it is a 450W power supply that is actually rated at 422W

    Thanks in advance!

Does the power supply fans turn on? Did you follow the instructions for all your componennts? Everything is seated properly? If you take the memory out, do you get any beep codes? No beep codes? Is the generic speaker plugged in?

    PSU fans: Yes
    Instructions: Yes
    Seated: Yes
No beep codes with memory in or out

Do you have a molex plugged into the video card, double check the mobo speaker is plugged in,switch the plug around anyway, there should be beep codes. :)

No molex for the video card.

I switched the plug around. I do not get beep codes.

UPDATE: I've made progress on the matter. I took out the memory sticks and left my computer with just the CPU and the video card.

I still get no video, but I DID get a beep code! Just one long one.

"No molex for the video card."
does this mean that the Vid card does not need one or that u dont have one to plug in? im pretty sure that all 6600 need extra power..
and i think that u get that beep just because ur memory is not installed..
the main problem for u is ur vidcard, i think, presuming that everything else is correctly set up. soooo u should try another vid card or try the one u have in another machine

I think so too. Unfortunately, I do not have another PCI-X machine or another machine to try it in.

But you guys did help narrow down the problem somewhat, so thanks!

I've decided it might be the power supply or the video card. If it's not, it could also possibly be the motherboard (because it is picky), so I'm gonna try for the cheapest of the three.

    Thanks!

Long shot but this can be a problem on a new build, Reset CMOS ( take out battery for a few minutes on new mobos as most dont come with jumpers anymore )

Did you connect the AUX power cable to the mobo? The square molex with 4 entries only; ussally yellow/black.

Do you have the cpu fan connected? Had trouble w/a gigabyte mobo that it didnt want to turn on unless the plug next to the cpu had the fan connected; wierd stuff. Did you try switching the memory from dimm slots? or one at a time?

My bad I didnt read the sli bit
1 long continuous beep is insufficient power for the video card, the pci-e slot can draw 150 watts through the slots alot more than agp's 40w,so somewhere I would say it isnt getting the 12v it needs, either the atx power isnt plugged in properly, the power supply is bad or your board may require the 6 pin pci-e extra power just next to the first slot,if your psu has 1 plug it in,if not you may need a molex to pci-e power adapter.

This prob has only been reported with extremely high end cards though :)
