no shut down

Hi every body. It only took me 45 mins to work out how to do this again { fast loser} Could someone PLEASE PLEAS tell me why my P.C sometimes will not shut down via the soft ware method. Thanks Guys. P.S Very cold here in woolongong aussie at the mo.

Shut down problems are usually due to a driver (USB and audio are the main culprits) not being 'released' by your OS, or by a memory management program (like FreeRAMXP is known to do this sometimes). Also, check your task manager after issuing a shut down command and see if any processes spike in memory or CPU usage. If you notice one (or more), this is probably the program at fault.

Shut down AGAIN.

Hi all again. Could the fact that i have a usb HUB ALWAYS PLUG IN BE STOPPING MY PC SHUTTING DOWN. i AM USING XP PRO PS2.
i KNOW I ASKED THIS BEFORE BUT I AM A BIT SLOW ON PC UPTAKES SOME TIMES.

Can't say for sure but I don' think should be a problem.
What exactly happens when you try to shut it down?
Are you shutting it down the usual way via the software, or are you manually just turning off the power?

I would normaly use the software method but most times need to use the switch on the tower. The real bug about this is that it is intermitting.

Hi all, I actually read some of the replies about others being unable to shutdown XP use the software. So i went and disabled auto restart. So far so good. So who ever it was that said to try that. A VERY VERY BIG THANK YOU.:wave-D
