My computer doesn't seem to have any sound after I downgraded from Vista to XP.
    This is my rig

I was having difficulties to find for the drivers at first but I managed to find most of it after struggling like mad.
It's only about the sound right now.

This is my sound card (from the URL above)

    High Definition 8-channel audio

    ALC 888S chipset

I've tried installing Realtek HD Audio 1.98 driver but still failed to hear any sound.

    Thanks!

    P/S : I'm new here.

Hi was it a CD package setup disc that came with your HP system if so try getting the oridinal mainboard chipset drivers and installing them from the webite it probably needs the HD drivers that XP does not have!!

    Give this a try.

    1) In Device Manager, remove the High Definition audio device (or the unknown device, if there is one) under Sound, Video & Game controllers.
    2) Go into Device Manager>System, right click the UAA Hi-Def Bus driver.
Disable the device and then uninstall it. (Do not re-boot yet)
    3) Uninstall Realtek High Definition Audio Driver (you may just have a folder that says Realtek) through Add/Remove Programs (if it's installed but not working)
    KB888111
In Add/Remove Programs, look for the KB888111 update and uninstall it. (It may have uninstalled in last step)
If you install, remove, and then re-install this update, the update is no longer listed in Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
Therefore, you cannot remove this update from your computer.
To work around this problem, follow these steps.

    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following subkey in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP2\KB888111 (may be in SP3)
    3. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
    4. Click Yes, and then exit Registry Editor.
Run CCleaner, both the Cleaner and Registry.

    Install your driver.

The UAA should be contained in this download.

This should work if you are NOT upgraded to SP3 yet.

Also with Realtek HD and SP3, this may help. (Not sure if MS has resolved the issue with an update yet)

UAA HD AUDIO DEVICE SUPPORT IN WINDOWS XP SP3
This is another MS nasty for all the deployment folks pushing XP SP3 to computers with UAA HD Audio devices. Yes SP3 will support the devices and the drivers are included however,, the patch IS NOT included! The update to KB835221, KB888111 doesn't link to the download but instructs you to call MS Support to get the patch which doesn't work on SP3.

This patch is required before any of the HD device drivers are installed
    1. On your PC change the CSDVersion registry key to XP SP2:
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows\CSDVersion value=200
    2. Restart your PC
    3. Install KB888111xpsp2.exe http://couponmeister.com/blog/HD_Audio/kb888111xpsp2.exe
    4. Change the CSDVersion key back to XP SP3 again:
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows\CSDVersion value=300
    5. Restart your PC, finalize configuration of your PC, sysprep and capture.
