I once had an sp2 and sounds with it worked fine until i decided to install sp3. Installation was successful but i'm not getting any sounds from my speaker or even in my monitor's speaker. So i checked for my sound card and found out i don't have one but an onboard one. Along with my PC are drivers, one of them i assume is for my onboard audio card. So i installed it, first the chipset and the sound driver but still i'm not getting any sounds. I've read and tried every remedy for this in this forum but got no progress. Now i'm desperate and needed solution for this :(. I've yet to install back an sp2 to check if the sounds are ok with it. Please can somebody help with it? :)

    system:
Motherboard Name - Asus P5VD2-VM SE

onboard sound card - Realtek ALC662 @ VIA VT8237S High Definition Audio Controller PCI (thanks to everest)

First, uninstall your current sound driver and restart the PC. If the New Hardware Wizard keeps popping up after removing the sound driver, just click "Cancel" each time it opens. If you don't already have a file 'unzipper' like WinRAR or WinZIP, download and install TUGzip; you'll need it for the next steps. TUGzip can extract RAR files, ZIP files, 7zip files, many EXE files, and just about any archive or self-extracting archive you're likely to encounter. When installing TUGzip, just click 'Next' all the way through. At the end of the install, there will be a little check-box for "Launch TUGzip"; go ahead and launch it; click "Next" all the way through again until you see a "Finish" button; there will be a column on the left side with a bunch of different archive formats; click the "Select All" button; click "Finish". A window will open that looks like an Explorer-type window, close it. Right click the file you downloaded (the file you want to extract) and click the 2nd upward pointing green arrow, it will say something like "Extract to: .\filename" and the file will extract to a folder of the same name. Now, download your chipset drivers from this direct link. It's a compressed .RAR file, so use the info above for extracting it with TUGzip. Then open the folder and run the setup file, restart the PC when the install has finished. Now download your sound driver from this link. It's a compressed .EXE file, and you can extract it again using TUGzip. DO NOT run the setup file. Follow the steps in this thread to install the driver via the Device Manager and Hardware Wizard. In steps 6 & 7, you'll point the wizard to the extracted audio folder. In that folder, there will be a folder named "WDM", this is the folder you'll point the wizard to. Once the install has finished, restart the PC. That should do it! Just be sure you have your speakers plugged in to the green jack on the back of the PC, and make sure they're powered on and the volume is turned up to a decent level, and you should have sound. Let us know how it goes!
