I have recently updated my audio driver which is a RealTek HD but after rebooting there is no sound. I then reinstall the driver and sound returns until computer is rebooted. I have WindowsXP Home Edition, 2.66 ghz PC. The sound just cut out while playing a game so I got driverMax and updated the driver. There is also Legacy audio driver that didn't need updating. What is going wrong.

Hi

Is your PC an OEM in meaning is it a DELL, HP, Sony etc and if so what is the make and model varient?

If a Self build PC, what is the Motherboard make and model?

What Service Pack is your Windows XP Home?

reason being is that while Realtek may make the Audio chip its not always the case that its a retail one as many OEMs use custom spec'd chips and the unified Realtek driver may not work correctly with onboard audio solutions.

To find this info you can use the likes of Everest to find this info, at times a summary log of your PC can help, to do this

Install Everest and run
Click Report (top menu) > Report Wizard > Next
Choose All Pages > Next
Choose Plain Text > Finish and wait for report to generate
Click Save to File and leave the File Name as Report, then click the Save as Type dropdown and choose Report files (*txt) and click Save (n.b. Save to desktop is best as easy place to find it, use Browse to locate desktop)

Then attach your log to your next post as per these instructions HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post
