A few months ago I bought a used AOL Systemax pc running windows xp home edition for my kids to play games and pretty much do as they please because I've run into problems when they use mine. I decided to reload windows because of a few problems I had with it. I used a standard windows xp home edition cd, and most of the drivers were installed... whatever lacked were downloaded when I ran Windows update. The soundcard (Inboard) did not get an update... but my computer does detect it in the device manager. I've tried using a couple of drivers (SIS) but nothing seems to work. It frreezes when installing the 7018 driver, which is what my computer is detecting the soundcard needs. I even tried the 7012 driver from the SIS website recommendation but still nothing.

What else can I do? I've used the Belarc Advisor and this is what I get....

Have you tried right click My Computer, click manage, click devices, click sound, video and game controllers, click on the sound device, usually ac 97 with many on-board sound, and click driver, click uninstall.
Shut down and let Windows find it again, and it should reinstal from the driver cache.
You can then update driver from this same point, if you need to.
