1st .. I did read all the other posts regarding this and followed those steps but can not get my sound to work still.

    Just curious..

upgraded my toshiba A65 from XP Home to XP Pro .. then ran all the Windows and Norton updates .. .. scanned it.. Adawared and Spybotted it .. and then can't get any sound.

Went to the web site where it has the drivers .. but doesnt help. Downloaded both .. the beta one and the other one for Xp ... rebooted and still didnt work. As an aside I plugged in my Labtec webcam and that didnt work either, even after downloading the updates from their web site.

Overall I am concerned about the sound. I saw someone saw that I should check my motherboard and then do something but was unsure as to what that meant. I knew to go to Cont. Panel and then Hardware and such .. checked drivers there but it said all was ok. Anyway, if anyone can help would appreciate it.

    Thanks. Roberto

I have checked the volume and it is on and all the way up. ALso, deleted the driver in Control Panel, System, Hardware, Sound ... deleted Realtek Audio Device and then rebooted and it did locate the hardware but it did not work still.

Just not sure what else to do. THanks for your help.

OK, I think your problem may be mechanical, lets check something.

Go into control panel - sounds . Go to the tab where you choose what sounds you want for windows events ie startup or shutdown .

Click on the test arrow. If the hardware is working, the arrow should be black and when you click it, it should gray out momentarily while the sound plays and then go black again. If it does this your hardware is working.

This is a laptop, right? It probably has a jack for plugging in external speakers. Plug a set of headphones or speakers in and test. You might find that just working the jack fixes the problem.

If it still doesn't work, there is probably a broken audio wire inside the unit. Bummer, cause laptops are scarey to take apart.

Depending on the laptop, there not all hard. Some are even quite easy.
