No sound at all after reformat

I have a computer that needed to be reformatted. now I have no sound whatsoever.. all drivers have been reinstalled, but with no luck .. the strange part is there are several audio cards* listed in the device manager ..
when I bring up the device manager under sound it shows
audio codecs
Legacy audio drivers
Legacy video capturing drivers
Media control devices
NVIDIA High definition audio
Realtek High definition audio
USB audio devices
Video codecs........

Now there is no yellow attention mark on any of these listed yet still no sound

I am running an AMD Athlon 64 X@ Dual core processor 4200 +
2.20 GHz 1.75 GB of Ram

Hi

What Windows Version and Service Pack is this PC?

Have you checked in Services that the Windows Audio Service is Started and its Startup Type is Automatic? (Services can be found in Control Panel > Administrative Tools)

In the Sound and Audio properties the volume is not set to mute or at zero is it?

What is your PCs make and model version if an OEM one from say Dell, HP, Gateway etc and if not a OEM PC then whats the motherboard make and model?

Are there any yellow ! marks on any device in Device Manager and if so what?

am on windows xp service pack 3

when I go to control panel administrative tools all that is there are shortcuts ..

this pc was "made" by someone so the only thing I could do to find pc specs is to use everest home and I got ... motherboard name unknown but I was able to find this motherboard ID is nVidia MCP78 and also
64-0100-00001-00101111-060608-ATHLON64 $C780A330_BIOS
