I have a bit of a tricky Problem here. I have just installed a fresh copy of windows xp professional as I did in the past. This time around I have no audio. It shows no device for audio device in "System Information" under Components-Sound Device. I've installed drivers for and ran and exe to have this set up but nothing.

Other installations of windows seemed to work fine but I'm hoping I wont have to reinstall or even buy another copy of windows :S.

I'm using an acer 5100 laptop.
I've tried everything I can think of. Any suggestion will be greatly appriciated.

    Hi

Grab the Chipset + VGA ATI driver and install that first then install the Audio driver from here http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5100.html for XP (chipset is generally needed before onboard hardware like sound is correctly ID'd by the OS)

What Service Pack is your XP? as if you have SP2 then you will likely need the UAA drivers and the HP ones tend to work ok in other OEM PCs
