When I prayed for silence this year I meant the ex-wife “Not my computer” :cry So now I have no sound out of my computer..? :tas

My sister put together this computer as she has upgraded, so pretty unfamiliar with it. And all of a sudden it has no sound coming from it..? So I have done all I can by reading similar problem posts but alas am obviously out of my league with this problem, rolleyes but promise I have given it quite a few hours of following posts and their advice… :banghead

    I have;
    Connected to the Internet.
    Right-clicked on My Computer.
    Clicked Properties.
    Clicked on the hardware tab.
    Clicked the Device Manager tab.

Everything on the right hand side of the list had a + next to it except; a yellow question mark with other devices written next to it, that had a – next to it as well . Then below that was another yellow question mark. This had Multimedia Audio controller next to it and a – next to it as well.
I clicked the listed device and new icons appeared on the top of the task bar.
I then clicked on the properties icon and a new window opened.
I then clicked on the reinstall driver’s tab.
A new window opened with the heading “ Welcome to hardware update wizard”.
I pressed for it to install, but it said that it was unable to install hardware, as the Wizard could not find the software?

I then uninstalled the drivers and rebooted my computer but again I got unable to install hardware, as the Wizard could not find the software?

Prior to all this happening my computer sound was fine. The night it went silent I got a lot of Virus alert massages and so got my sister who gave me the computer to clear up any problems. Since then I have run virus scan and no viruses have been detected. :p

I also deleted a couple of programs that I didn’t want to use at the time, but I had a Christmas drink first so I am wondering if I might have removed some thing by accident. Ooops…rolleyes

Well below are what I believe to be the details of my computer after running a free motherboard detector …:hammer

    P.S

If I type DXDiag in to the run window and press Ok . This then brings up a window with various tabs on it. When I press the sound tab then there is no information..? Just what I have written below..?

    Name; Blank
    Device ID Blank

:wave Welcome to Major Geeks! :major
I searched the Shuttle site for info, and as far as they're concerned, your PC doesn't exist. So we'll need an Everest report attached to your next post in order to find out which drivers you need....

:drink Happy New Year! :dancer :wine

Hi DB thank you very much for taking the time to read my post, I appreciate it..

I did download Everest to get a report of my system’s hardware, OS, and drivers and followed "When Everest is done scanning, click "Report" at the top of the Everest window, click next to get to "Report Profile", select "Hardware related pages", click next, select "Plain Text", click "Finish". " but it just ran forever and wouldn't finish the report..?

So I followed a post as I am trying to be as helpfull as I can, or be it not very well I'm afarid, and typed DXdiag in to the run box and have attached that report I'm not to sure if that helps.......

Thanks very much and hope you have a "Great" New Year......

    Paul.....

:confused Strange that Everest didn't finish generating the report. The dxdiag report really doesn't tell me much, so I had to research your system via a different route... anyway, download your chipset software from this direct link. Install and reboot after the install has completed. I'm relatively certain that your PC uses the RealTek AC'97 audio codec; you can download it from this link. Install, and reboot when the install has finished. That should do it! Let us know how it goes!

    :-D
