    Dear All,

Due to some issues with my graphics card and drivers (i think), my PC freezes after it has been running for some time. What I have found however, is that I can then boot in 'Safe mode with networking' and can use my PC for as long as I like without any further issues. The problem I then face is there is no sound and a poor refresh rate. The refresh rate I can live with, the sound I cannot. So, my question is, how can I manually load the sound drivers so I can have sound whilst running in safe mode?

    My PC config -

    Pentium IV 2.66MhZ
    1GB DDR RAM
Leadtek NVIDIA GeForce Ti4200 128 MB Ram
    80 GB WD hard drive
Gigabyte GA 8IPE1000 Pro 2 motherboard (using on-board sound)
Running Windows XP Pro with SP2 installed

What issues do you think you were having with your graphic card?

Do you have any yellow ! marks in Device Manager, if so what?

Around the times of the freezing, is their anything highlighted with a red X or yellow ! mark in the Event Viewer ( located in Control Panel > Administrative Tools ) again if so what.

Would you know if you have ever installed the Chipset drivers/Motherboard drivers? if you havnt then belows link has them listed as Intel INF, these drivers are needed for stable install of many drivers.

Thanks for replying Halo. I don't have any yellow !'s in device manager at all. The issue with my graphics card is that I can use say, Firefox browser, and browse the net for indefinite periods of time without any problems. If however, a graphics intensive application is then launched, say for example Realplayer to play a music video, the video opens, but then the monitor flashes completely black (no signal being sent to it from the graphics card) for like 1 second, the image comes back then flashes black again like 5-10 seconds later and so on until the entire system locks up completely and does not respond to any control inputs whatsoever. Also, if I play Puzzle Pirates (a java based game), I can play it for a while, but then if the game moves to a particular part where it becomes more graphics intensive, the whole PC locks up and has to be rebooted. The strange thing is though that I can then reboot in 'Safe mode with networking' and can play for hours and hours without any problems or issues at all. (Just without sound and at a low refresh rate).

Thanks for the driver link, I have d'loaded and installed the INFupdate.

And here are a couple of messages from the history log of the event viewer -
