No Sound On Laptop

I have a Dell laptop. I lost all sound on it. I have windows 10 pro. What could be the issue?

 

Could be muted?
Have you run the troubleshooter?

Hi Stephen. My sound is not muted. What troubleshooter are you asking me to run?

Hi Plodr. I went into device manager/sounds, video, and game controllers. There is 2 listings in there (Intel display audio and Realtek audio). I attempted to update the drivers for both and it said windows has the updated driver already installed. Does that mean my sound chip has died? How can I tell if that is the reason?

 

Also, when I go to speaker/headphone properties and in the advanced section. Under the default format/24-bit 48000 Hz and I click test, a popup window says that this device is being used by another application. Not sure if this has any bearing on my issue or not.

 

If you Right-click speaker icon -Left of time on taskbar. One of the choices is 'Troubleshoot sound problems'.

Stephen, I did what you said and then I had windows reinstall my driver and presto, my sound is now working. Thanks so much. I appreciate the help.
