Is that onboard sound or a sound card? If a card, is it seated firmly in the PCI slot? If so, try it in a different slot to make sure it's not a bad bay.

If you changed nothing else, then it could be a bay that's gone bad, or dust on the contacts, or incorrectly set cables. Do you mean music from a CD? Can you play anything off the drive itself (like in c:windows/media)?

Nothing plays at all, no cd no mp3s or anything. And i believe its all on board, its just a compaq, and i am using what ever sound scard that came with it

Okay, you said MP3s or CDs, are the MP3 files on the hard drive?

If it's an on-board sound card, it could well have shorted out when you moved it to another case. Things like that happen, unfortunately. If you have a sound card lying around (one that would hook into a PCI slot), you could try putting it in and seeing if that does the trick.

There is a difference between music played from the hard drive and music from a flash drive or a CD, which is why I asked about the files on the hard drive. From the data, it's hard to say but I think maybe your card has shorted out.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. Someone else may have a better take on it.

Thankx, the music is on the hard drive, switching the sound card might be the best way to go.

Does the device Manager say the sound card is working properly?

If so, make sure you have the volume up, not muted, speakers plugged into the correct hole and the speakers plugged in if required.

If device manager says there is a problem, it would likley be a driver or IRQ problem.

also if your old case had front audio jacks , and you arent using that feature in your new case then it may be as simple as a jumper between 2 of the pins on the front audio connector for the board. check your mobo manufacturers web site

If it's onboard sound, make sure that onboard sound hasn't been disabled in BIOS.

There was no problem with any part of the computer, it was the front audio jacks that werent pluged in due to the new case, i pluged them in and the music played right away, thanks for the help guys.
