No Sound...please advise.

Hi. I have a Dell PC that I purchased from Dell in January of 2004. After going on their website trying to get help, and repeatedly getting asked for a code number, I gave up. I entered the code that is on my computer tower, but it appears to be invalid. Their technical support hotline is fee-based, which I think it total horse malarkey...

Anyway, here is my problem. Last night, the sound on my computer just quit working. I played around with the speaker wires, unplugging and replugging. I went into my volume control area and messed with that, but still nothing.

Can anyone give me any pointers? Thanks!

I entered every number I found on this computer. One tag is on the side of the tower and one is on the back. None of the numbers (and I entered each one twice) worked. Where do I look to find out the model?

 

Its a Dimension 2400...just found the paperwork.

 

Oh good grief. That service tag # was staring me right in the face! I feel sheepish now. Thanks.

I just went and lugged my stereo down here and hooked up the computer speakers to it, and the speakers work. So, at least now I know it is something in the system.

 

OK...I chatted with one of their tech support people, and luckily I managed to find the resource and diagnostic CD that came with the system. I ran the test and everything passed. The computer rebooted, and there was sound! I don't know what fixed the problem, or what was wrong with it...and I don't care as long as I have sound. I don't think it could have possibly been just the reboot, because I had tried that a few times.
