    Hi, ime using Windows XP home edition and have no sound at all, apart from the 'beep' when my Outlook Express has finished receiving emails. According to the system, all the codecs/drivers are installed and working properly, but i just do not have any sound/volume. When i go into Programmes/Accessories/Emtertainment then Volume Control, I get the following message;

'There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devises, go to Control Panel, click printers and other hardware, then click Add Hardware'.

I only have Printers and Faxes in the Control Panel, but in Sound Devices everything is working (according to the check box)

Can anyone kindly help me please?

    Sincere thanks,

    John

First, make sure Windows Audio Service is running.
    Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services
Scroll down the list of services until you find the Windows Audio service.
Right click on it and choose Properties.
Make sure it is set to Automatic and Start is checked.

If you still have trouble, we'll need some more info.
If you have a retail PC, post the manufacturer name and model #
Use Everest to get a report of your system’s hardware, OS, and drivers. Upload the report as an attachment
    Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4181
When Everest is done scanning, click "Report" at the top of the Everest window, click next to get to "Report Profile", select "Hardware related pages", click next, select "Plain Text", click "Finish". Then when it is done processing, click "Save To File". Save it where you want to. (I would use Desktop.)
Click "Go Advanced" in the MG reply box, scroll down a little way until you see "Manage Attachments", click it, browse to your file, click "Upload", and close the window. Then submit the post. You may have to also type something in the reply box, like, "Here's my report.", so that it will submit.

Heres my Everest report, as I tried your first suggestion and all was enabled as should be. My computer is a Stone Communications desk top, using Windows XP home edition.

Thank you very much for your kind help.

[FONT=Arial, helvetica]Sorry, that I didn't get back sooner, but I had some issues with my own PC.
First, install the chipset drivers for your board. Do a restart afterwards.
Chipset: Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility for Intel® Desktop Board D865GLC

I would uninstall any SoundMax through Add/Remove Programs first and then run CCleaner's Registry tool, before installing.

This is the Audio Driver that Intel shows for your board.

Just in case that doesn't work, here is another driver for the sound chip on your board. Once again, uninstall SoundMax,(if there) and run CCleaner, first.

And last here are some tips, from Intel, on audio issues.
