I don't fully understand your post?

Anyway, make sure it's enabled correctly in the bios, find the driver details in Device Manger, and manually remove it if uninstall doesn't.

Then just reboot and the new hardware wizard should appear.

Thanks for the info. I have tried to uninstall Sound driver in devise Mang and reboot that did not work. I remove the sound card and reinstall it and rebooted that did not work. I am going to remove the card again and move it to new slot and reboot to see if that would do it. Do you think I could anything else?? ODIE :)

I don't think we understand each other. Here goes,

If a device that you don't want keeps appearing in Device Manager, it means the driver/s is still in the system. The system thinks you have that hardware if the driver is there, so it installs it.

Uninstall doesn't always work, so find the driver details and path, and manually remove it (Don't delete it, either move it to Desktop, or rename the extension to .old ).

Uninstall the incorrect soundcard in Device Manager, then check the bios, and install the correct hardware and the hardware wizard should appear.

You need to follow every step and not skip any or you will go around in circles.

Insomniac: Sorry for the confusion. I am a little confused also, Like you said I am going in circles??? Let me breing up to date. I have removed the card & installed the card in a new slot. Now the computer is confused as I am and says it does not recognize that a sound card is installed. So I know that I got to redo the instalation. You say find the driver details & path, then manually remove it. I am a little Nieve in this. Where would I find the Driver that I could remove it manually?? How do I check the BIOS?? Installing the sound card and the installation wizard should let me thru the steps. I hope I can do all this. ODIE :)

You're not going to have anything in BIOS regarding a 3rd party sound card. If you have onboard sound, there will be a setting in BIOS to enable/disable it. If your 4100 has onboard sound, try disabling it in the BIOS setup-- perhaps there is some sort of conflict going on with the SB Live.

    THEDOUG:
Thanks for the info. I have come to the conclusion that all my posted threads w/ this computer problems has been because of this Sound card. I think this is a bad card. It maybe the cause of all my problems. I am going to uninstall the card and have it checked. Replacing it might be the best investment I could make. The only thing I need to know is what kind of sound card do I need to replace it with?? It seems to me that my comp. is running better than it has before. I replaced the mouse. And now w/ the sound card disabled its running better. ODIE :)

I have one in a Dell 400SC running WinXP, and it works great-- even with the onboard sound not disabled.
