I am running Ubuntu on an Asus m51 series laptop, and their is absolutely no sound what so ever. The only sound i hear is when the computer first starts up and the Asus logo appears along with a ring. However as soon as the operating system starts up there is no sound. I have a driver for my video card which i obtained from nvidia, and im assumming i should do the same for the audio card. However there are 2 problems
    1. I have no idea what audio device i have/ how i find it?
    2. I am not use to dealing with the terminal and handling configuration files.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looking at the series info, got me a little info. They all seem to have the Azalia codec (driver). (Integrated IntelĀ® High Definition Audio chip ( Azalia) compliant MDC fax/modem )

As for helping to get that to install, I have no idea about Ubuntu. You might try posting in the Linux forum here.

You should also post the exact model of your laptop. That may help them a bit.
