Did you reinstall chipset drivers before installing any other drivers?

Basically the chipset driver is for the motherboard and helps it to identify other components. It should be the first driver installed after the OS is installed. Go to the motherboard manufacturer and get the latest one.

You can find drivers for your board here.
Update all of them but the BIOS
The one for the IDE should be for the chipset install it first.

Flashing the BIOS can be tricky so if you want to try it be sure to read up on how to do it first. Though I have found that on newer boards it is not as bad as it once was.
