Good evening everyone I haven't been on here in awhile but yet another problem brings me back to the Geeks, here is the deal.........I have no "on-screen click" when I use my mouse, you know when you point to something on the screen.

It's totally vanished it worked absolutely fine when I left for work this morning and now it's gone but the strange thing is that if I go to play a movie off of the hard drive or otherwise sound's perfect. This is what my volume screen looks like

    http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/3431/volumescreendb2.jpg

I noticed that in the microphone section it's got mute I don't know why but I de-selected it and it made no difference, the strange thing is is that I haven't even looked at this volume screen since the first part of this year when I had another volume issue. Does anybody have any thoughts and suggestions?, Thanks in advance.

    Peace :cool

Im confused that a no click mouse relates to sound issues, explain a little more, maybe im a little tired too. ed

Well the mouse itself clicks but...............when I go to open a link or or to hit the back button there is no click and there is supposed to be a click from where on the screen you are clicking on ie: screen click not a mouse click

Your mouse will wear out, try pushing real hard on that left click, is this mouse wireless? ed

Once again it's not the mouse.........yes it is wireless, and yes the batteries are good,...................once again the problem is that when I click on a link there isn't the distinctive onscreen click you get when you actually point your mouse on something onscreen and it clicks.....................I can shut my computer off and take the mouse into another room and it'll click all day, I'm talking about pointing and clicking on a link and not having that link give you that "click sound".....that's my problem. :)

    Question.

Do your shutdown and startup sounds work?

No those particular sounds haven't worked on my account for a couple of years now but on wife's account they've always worked fine........I made a thread here last year http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=92185concerning that particular problem but I never did resolve it but in trying to, the onscreen click thing disappeared but I got it back in a day or 2 and have had no problems until yesterday afternoon when it was suddenly gone for no apparent reason.

I'm not too worried about the shutdown and startup sounds as that was a nightmare but I would at least like to have my 'ole onscreen click thing! :)

    Back it up first.

    File, export...

Then delete the value on the right. It will rebuild to its default state.

    Reboot and test.

Ok I used System Restore for backup and then did file, export..........when I rebooted the windows shutdown/startup sounds magically appeared and I thought it was all good but after the reboot I still don't have my onscreen click. :(

Let me add that I'm really appreciate your help as I've had the start/shutdown sound problem for over a year now and that part is finally resolved, thinking back I remember downloading something from the Weather Channel and then deleting it I guess if affected the start/shutdown sounds.

But what gets me is I didn't download anything prior to me having the onscreen click sounds I just don't get it, I leave home it's fine I come back and it's haywire.

Go back to the Sounds and Audio Devices in the control panel and click on the Sounds tab.

Scroll down to Windows Explorer > Start Navigation and make sure it has a sound associated, should be able to click on it to test it. I think Windows Navigation Start.wav is the default sound.

Ok Steve there wasn't anything in the windows explorer > start navigation maybe I did something wrong but I selected something and I wasn't able to test it. I did see the windows xp start.wav I didn't click on it I just want to make sure it won't mess anything up and it'll resolve my onscreen click problem.

And just for verification you want me to click on the windows xp start shown in the bottom screenshot right?

Yeah, should say something like Windows Navigation Start.wav. Then click the little arrow to test the sound.
