    Welcome to Major Geeks.

We need some more information about your computer. Especially what operating system you are using :) That would be a big help. Hopefully you have something on your desktop that is named "My Computer." If so, right-click on it - a menu should pop up. Select the "Properties" option from this menu. This should reveal a screen that will tell you some basic things about your computer, like what operating system it is using, amount of RAM you have, and sometimes what kind of processor your system has. Post back with what it says - or, if you are pretty sure its some form of MS Windows, read on . . .

If you think you are running some version of MS Windows (and odds are good that you are), download this program, right here at MG:

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4181

This is a free program that can provide you with a lot of information about your system, including what sound card/system you are using. [Note: If you are not using some form of Windows then you will not be able to install it, and we will have to try something else].

Download and install this program. Run it and it will start scanning your system. When it is done scanning your computer it will display a split screen. In the column on the left-hand side of this screen should be a list of things with plus (+) signs beside them. Click the + next to "Computer", and it will expand into a list of options. Click on "Summary". There should now be some information displayed in the box to your right - at the very top is a line that will tell you exactly what Version of Windows your system has. Farther down this list, under "Multimedia", it will hopefully display what audio adapter your system has.

Also on this list may be the name and model of your motherboard, what kind of video you have - all kinds of info. Some systems will display more information then others - generally speaking, the older the system the less info will be displayed. Post back what you find out if you are able to use this program, and there should be no problem in getting the drivers you need.

(I am not familier with Mac operating systems, nor Linux versions, so I don't know how you can identify these - perhaps someone else here can help with that if you are running something other then Microsoft Windows)

Welcome to Major Geeks - this is the place to be!

Well done. According to the information you have posted, you have the MSI MS-6526GL motherboard. The drivers you need should be available here:

    http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=MS-6526GL_L&class=mb

Go to the "Download center" in the list on the left, then "Latest Drivers Download" on the menu that appears. Be patient . . . this seems to be a slow site . . .

You need the AC'97 Audio Controller ( this link might work http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_list.php?part=1&kind=3&CHIP=3&ID=5- If not, follow the link above and search) but I don't see in your data list the version of the operating system you are using ( I may have missed it . . . I'm kinda old). Anyway . . . this is the site you need - the driver displayed covers MS Windows operating sysems back to Win98 . . . if you have WinXP-64bit there is an option for that as well. There are at least four pages of drivers listed - you will need to check each one out till you find what you need.

Download the recommended audio drivers for your motherboard and operating system, and install them as directed on this site. If the MSI site fails to provide the drivers you need (and it may - this site seems buggy) then do a Yahoo or Google search for "AC'97 Audio Controller" and look for a version compatable with your system.

Should the MSI site driver be the one you want, I've included an info/warning notice about these drivers listed on the MSI site - follow MSI's directions as you please:

When you find the driver for your audio system, make sure you save it to a folder that you will be able to find later (On all new systems I create a folder on the C: drive named "Downloads." I save any downloads to this folder.

Save your audio driver to such a folder (or at least to a location you can find).

When Windows prompts for a 'Driver CD' - browse to this folder and point it at the driver file you put here . . .
