Just built a new computer (or rather, had it built for me) and I haven't been able to get any sound out of my speakers yet.

I seem to be having a problem with my Realtek High Definition Audio (yellow exclamation mark)

Their is no Troubleshoot button for one, instead there's a button that says Reinstall Driver... Which does nothing when pressed.

I went to the Realtek website to and downloaded the ATI HDMI Audio Device. I ran the .exe and it did its thing. I restarted the computer and nothing has changed.

    Motherboard is a Foxconn A7GM-S.
    Windows XP Home SP2.

If you need anymore information I'll be happy to provide it.

I'm not an expert on this but the problem sounds similar to one posted here before
You can try this...I got this from a similar post in this section. .
uninstall the realtek driver. reboot the computer, do not install the drivers when prompted. Go to the MS link and download the hotfix. then go to the second link and install the realtek hd drivers. reboot the computer and let it install the drivers now. Hopefully this will solve the problem. If this does not work post back and hopefully an expert will come through to give you more advice

Well I cannot uninstall Realtek from the Device Manager, but I can from Add/Remove Programs. This for some reason leads to me being unable to connect to the internet for some reason?

I previously downloaded the hotfix and was confused by exactly what to do with it. It's just several folders, I was expecting an .exe or something. Any clues?

EDIT: I ran the WDM_R214 just for kicks and got a "Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure !!" message.

    Unfortunately I received the

    message again. Any other ideas?

Okay, hold the phone. I was able to get the yellow exclamation mark to go away. I disabled the Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio in the device manager, then was able to install the Realtek Driver...

HOWEVER, I'm still not getting any sound? Hmph...

Marcus I've been reading threads for the past few hours trying to find a solution to your problem. I'm still researching so if I come up with anything I'll post back in the mean time hopefully someone will come through with a solution.

Just a thought , now that you have the yellow mark gone can you now enable the MS UAA bus and see what happens

Before attempting what you have just posted buggabear I went to YouTube and clicked on a random video.

    I have sound.

One problem though, it's incredibly low. Even if I turn the speaker volume all the way up (and all of the sound options) I only can just barely hear anything.

We're making progress, any ideas on how to increase the volume?

EDIT: Heh. Well there we go, had it plugged into the wrong jack. That was not the original problem though, so don't go facepalming. :-o I appreciate all of your help buggabear, you really saved my hide from having to bring in a tech guy! I owe you one buddy.

I'm glad you got it working, I was going to suggest you check that but that would have been too easy of a fix, Now I know a little more than I knew 2 hours ago, so it worked out for both of us. I'm not sure why this occurs but in reading through the post here it happens alot. Check back every now and then and maybe you can be the one who helps someone with a similar problem.
    See you next time.
