    Hallo,

I reformatted a 2002 P4 running windows 2000, and installed windows XP proffessional SP2. Now apart from 1 beep when I boot up, and ringing when someone tried to start a voice call on yahoo, I have no sound. The onboard sound is enabled in Bios, I have updated the Bios. In device manager everything is reported as enabled and working properly, no yellow marks, I have tested the speakers on another computer successfully, the volume is not muted. I used the Aopen bonus pack that came with the computer to install the chipset and soundriver - soundmaxv2.0 integrated audio. The computer is an Aopen AX4BS-V The midi playback is microsoft GS wavelength sw synthesyser. I have done all the xp updates apart from SP3. Microsoft fix it found no problems with the sound. When I click on the audio icon in task bar, go to sounds and audio device properties, voice and test h/ware, it reports all ok. Can't remember which tool (I have tried a few) reported "your sound card does not support H/ware buffering. Sound will only play back from software buffers" I found info on the net about about that, but nothing I understood that I could do to fix this?
    My mic does work.

Can anyone please give me some guidance?

Is the yahoo program installed as a program or is it in your web browser?

When you installed first did you hear anything before installing any software?

I installed the yahoo program, and when my xp installation booted first time, I only heard the boot up beep.

I would try to reinstal the driver.

One short beep at startup is normal meaning your pc is fine.

Do you mean the driver for soundmax v2?

I uninstalled drivermaxv2, went to install h/ware in device manager and ran that. It found new h/ware intel 82801BA/BAM AC'97 audio controller. I still have no sound.
