No sound

Hi all, could use some help here. I have an HP w2207 monitor with internal speakers. They are not working. The high definition audio device says it is working. I've fiddled around with it. At first it was saying it was not plugged in so I uninstalled and reinstalled the device. Now it shows that it is working but there is no sound. The operating system is Windows Vista Premium Home 32 bit. I am computer illiterate but can follow directions. Can anyone please help me with this?

Check in the monitor menu, should be a volume adjust there. ed

Just to be sure, you do have the single line cable running to your monitor from sound out, right???

 

definitely check the connections for the speakers for the monitor going to sound out, it's all color coded and should be a snap

Yes, it is going from the monitor to the sound out on the back of the desktop pc.

What do you specifically want to know? It is Windows vista. All drivers are up to date. The speakers did work in the past. I apologize if I need you to walk me through this. I tried the obvious stuff. Nothing has worked. By all appearances, the speaker volume should work. It is an HP w2207 lcd monitor with internal speakers. Thank you!
