Did the Speccy thing, (pretty handy), here goes, Amd Athlonx64x2 Be2350, 2G Ram, Motherboard Ace F690GVM, HD Seagate 1T, Sound Card, Unimodemhalf duplex. Other questions, headphones do not work, had sound, cannot think of any programs added to cause the problem. BTW thanks for the replies.

A few suggestions:make sure your speakers are connected to the light green socket on your soundcard, make sure you have them connected to the right soundcard i.e if you have a soundcard which is located at the bottom near the PCI add in card slots make sure you haven't connected the speakers to the onboard sound connector which is higher up on the left hand side at the rear of the computer.

If your using onboard sound enter your bios by tapping F2 or del when the computer is first turned on,navigate the menu's till you find onboard audio or realtek audio and make sure its enabled,if your using a soundcard you need this disabled.

Open device manager and look for any yellow exclamation marks, check the properties of your soundcard and check the driver is installed and the device is working properly.

Do you have a volume control down in the task bar?
    Which OS are you running?

Also, you could try uninstalling your audio drivers and then reinstalling them.

    Hi,
The "Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device" you have for sound, is not a sound card, but the modem speaker/audio. Go Start->Settings->Control Panel->Sound and Audio Devices->Audio tab, then under sound playback (default device) change it to your sound card, i.e. not the modem. If the modem is the only one listed there you may have to reinstall your sound card drivers, or you may not even have a sound card in your system...
Is your system a homebuild or is it a manufacture build... i.e... Dell,Advent..etc.. if it is a manufactured one we need the make and model for this machine as this will determin which drivers you need, i asked for you to post the results of speccy though you did tell us what was in your system you fail to mention what OS..i.e.. xp,vista ect.. please run speccy again and upload the log via this way....
