    Welcome to the forum fordcrewcab.

Not knowing your level of expertise, I need to ask a few questions.

Are you sure the drivers you are installing are the correct drivers for the sound card? Many Dell computers have onboard sound.

Does the computer also have onboard audio?

Is there power to the speakers?

Are the speakers known to be good?

Is the sound muted in Windows?

Is the volume turned up both in Windows and on the speakers?

Try going to Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices and go through all the tabs there to make sure everything looks as it should...it may be something simple :)

Thanks for all the replies, the speakers are okay as they worked okay on my Hp comp.I do not believe it has on board sound as the only speaker outlets are on the SB board.Just to make sure i had the right drivers i went to the Dell site and downloaded the driver matching the number on the board.I know it has to be something simple the problem is finding it.In Control panel sound icon window says no audio. The sound is not muted and the speakers are turned on i even tried different speakers though i knew these were okay. will try services.msc, seems i checked before and it is set on automatic if it is the loction i checked before,as far as my experiece goes i do not know much about the software language.

sorry i forgot to mention it is a Dell 8200 dimension version 2002 Pentium 4 256 ram.I have tried all the above. In control panel-sounds says no audio, nothing seems to have worked far, i am just wondering if the Sound Blaster board is working though in doing a system check everything normal, if you can believe that. Also did Run services.msc audio in on automatic,Is there a way to check if the board is working?

I just reinstalled the SB card again and it came up saying that File sfman32dll on creative WDM Audio driver Disk is needed. I put in the SB instalation disk for Sound Blaster live Value digital 1024 software for Win 98se win Me win 2000 and winxp NOW i am running win Xp service pack 3 PRO could that give me my problems? just a guess.

This is the list of 122 drivers for XP on a Dimension 8200
    http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04
click on the audio (there are 11 drivers).
I'd download the three Creative Labs drivers.
Do you know if the card is 512V or 5.1 digital?

Hi plodr, will look into that, since my copy of win Xp Pro is not certified i guess i will try to do a clean reinstall, get rid of win xp pro and reinstall the winXP home edition and reinstall all the drivers maybe that will cure it. I do have most of the disk for Win xp home edition including the SB install disk but plan on doing a backup on usb. Will this be a hard thing to do,and what is your opinion on this. Will try that website and see if i qualify for that hotfix, will let you know.

Hi everyone, i want to thank plodr for putting up with me and the help he gave me. The sound problem has been resolved and if nobody had a laugh this weekend here is one for you,My sound problem was the result of me not plugging in the speakers power cord.I down loaded realteck media player ,still no sound could not figure it out, then on closer examination on the back of one speaker was power in put .when moving speakers from one location to another the adaptor cord had fell behind my desk and what i thought was a earphone outlet was power input. DUh, the good side is i now have sound using Realteck audio player.Using the Jellbean key finder found my information so now will try to find out why i can not get my win xp validated. Thanks everyone. Tom

Ah, been there done that but for me it was plugging the monitor into the wrong video connector and wondering why the screen stayed dark! I eventually figured it out and then put masking tape over the connector I did not want to use so I wouldn't repeat the mistake.
    Incidentally, I'm a gal not a guy.
