   After installing memory upgrade on a gateway e series 4100, sound is eratic or no sound at all, tried rebooting, sound works for less than a minute then jerky or no sound - took out memory cards and works fine. Is it the driver, do I need new sound card, am stumped.

   Hi
   
   What Windows version and Service Pack are you using?
   
   Check in Device Manager if you have any Yellow ! marks and if so by what device are they?
   
   You could try to install the Chipset driver HERE and reboot and then the Audio driver HERE and reboot and see if that helps.
   
   Do you have any sound audio driver codec packs installed like Shark, k-lite etc and if so uninstall then before installing the above to test sound.
