Just 2 days ago I had my hard drive formatted and now that I've got programs I want on there I have no sound coming through my speakers. I have a Soundblaster Audigy 2 soundcard with a Windows XP OS. Reinstalling the soundcard software/drivers won't work because I've already done that twice and it still is giving me troubles. Please help.

    Any errors in Device Manager?

Is your soundcard listed in Device Manager?

(sounds like you need to install the motherboard manufacturers' drivers)

I had that problem once - I finally physically removed the sound card from the PC, carefully cleaned the contact points then re-installed it. That took care of the problem - something wasn't making contact. If that doesn't work, try installing it in a different PCI slot.

Other sound problems I've solved by going into device manager, and deleting the card. On reboot windows will detect it and want to load the drivers for it - but I think you have already tried this?

I see Creative SB Audigy 2 (WDM) under Sound, video and game controllers while in device manager. I'm guessing that's the sound card. I've gone onto their site and they have an autoupdate and it was able to detect my soundcard. I see no errors or exclamatioin points on anything in the device manager.

I still think it's your motherboard drivers, as the sound card stopped working only after you formatted and installed XP (XP only contains basic generic drivers, and the PCI bus might not be fully functional).

From memory, there is also a setting in Creative for turning digital audio on or off that can resolve this.

It's alive! It's alive! lol. Pushing the card down into the motherboard to make sure it was all the way in worked! :). Thanks!
