Hey everyone, and hope all the mothers had a good day :).

I've got a small problem thats been like this for awhile but I never bothered to fix it.

On my user account, on startup, I have no "windows startup sound", no "windows logon sound" , or "windows logoff sound" . I went into the control panel, into the sound schemes and they play fine there but I don't know how to get them to work outside of the control panelv:confused:.

I tried playing around with it, any now theres no "on-screen click" when I use my mouse, you know when you point to something on the screen.

I must of disabled something, plus I don't know how to enable either:eek:.

On a side note I checked my wife's user account and hers works perfectly .

I've checked the posted archives and found a few similar problems but still haven't figured it out yet.

    Any thoughts anyone?

    Thanks

    James

    Hello James
I have the same problem Lost the startup and shutdown sound. Not sure what caused it and neither of the suggested fixes from Kelly's corner solved it.
If you come up with a solution let me know and if I come up with something I will let you know.
    Thanks

Do you have TweakUI installed? Check under All Programs and look for Powertoys for Windows XP.

Yes I do have TweakUI installed. Is there a setting in there that I should be looking for?

Under General make sure that "Beep on errors" is selected.

it is selected. I have all other sounds, but startup & shutdown. It's been that way for awhile, but when I seen someone else having pretty much the same problem I thought I would post about it.

You help is very much appreciated
    Thank You

Also, on the right-hand side of #6 (Fix the Ding.Wav File) corrects some sound issues.

You know...i never really noticed this. But i dont have any startup or shutdown sounds to. That is if ur referring to the little 'jingle' it plays.

It doesnt Bother me not working, i rather it not, cuz well i have my speakers on a high volume all the time and i use my keyboard sound control, but on start up the sound is always on max until windows finishes loading all the way up, so i always hear a very loud jingle that annoyed me lol.

Was gonna suggest u might not have current windows update but if it works on ur wife's then its gotta be personal settings. I r worthless :(

    Hey Steve,

I didn't have the tweakui on my computer, so I downloaded it and under general settings the "beep on errors" was already checked.

I just ran restore system default sounds, that did nothing, was thinking about doing the fix the ding.wave file, but do you think it could be a personal setting thing as Mark stated? (by the way thanks for your input Mark) :).

I can't remember the last time (maybe a year?) I had startup and shutdown chimes on my pc, but I've always had the popupblocker chime, mouse on-screen click, and the chime when you save a movie to your hard-drive, until yesterday when I tried to get the startup chimes working in the control panel under sound schemes.

I'm looking right now and in control panel
    sounds and audio devices
program events , and I have a speaker icon at start windows, log-off, log-on, system notification, etc...... but I'm at a loss at how to save them and have them run on my computer, when I test them out they work perfectly:confused:, any more thoughts:confused:

That's all I can think of right now, maybe can come across something new for you guy's to try.

One thing you haven't tried I don't think is select everything, no matter how remote, just enable all sounds and see if makes a difference.

    Hey Steve guess what?

I did get some of my functions sounds back, what I did first of all is select (almost) :) everything like you said, the hard thing about that, is that you have to give everything a sound, so some functions sounded alike,.

When I did that, almost everything had a sound even the start button had a sound didn't know it had one :) , what was confusing, is that I still didn't have the log-on, log-off sound, and start-up sound either.

So, what I did was to select the windows default and click on apply then ok and guess what?, I had some sounds, even though I still didn't have the log-on sounds or startup sounds

I may go back and give everything a sound like you said and see what happens, but then it'll be a musical fiasco:) :)

    Oh well I'm still trying.

ps: glad you like the avatar, nothing like a 5.0 thats a quartermilerocket
